Taylor vs. Pili Predictions & Betting Picks: Can Flora Pili Spoil Katie Taylor’s Farewell?

Share

Katie Taylor’s final professional fight is supposed to be the perfect ending.

More than 80,000 fans at Croke Park. A world championship fight in Dublin. One last ring walk in front of an Irish crowd that has followed her around the world for most of her professional career.

Standing on the other side of the ring on September 5, however, will be an undefeated fighter with absolutely no interest in playing a supporting role.

Flora Pili arrives in Ireland with a 12-0 professional record and the biggest opportunity of her career. There is an enormous gap between the two women in terms of experience at the highest level, and the betting market has responded accordingly: Taylor is currently available at roughly 1/16 with several bookmakers, while Pili can be found at double-digit odds.

Those prices make the simple Taylor moneyline difficult to recommend from a betting perspective.

The more interesting question is not necessarily whether Katie Taylor wins, but how she wins.

Here is our breakdown, prediction and betting picks for Katie Taylor vs. Flora Pili.

Katie Taylor vs. Flora Pili Prediction

Prediction: Katie Taylor by Decision

Estimated win probability:
Katie Taylor – 91%
Flora Pili – 8%
Draw – 1%

Taylor is understandably a huge favorite, and it is difficult to make a serious argument that the difference in experience between these two fighters is reflected inaccurately by the market.

Taylor enters the fight with a 25-1 professional record and six knockouts. Pili is unbeaten at 12-0 with two stoppage victories. The numbers themselves already favor Taylor, but the quality of opposition behind those records makes the difference much greater.

Taylor has fought Amanda Serrano three times. She has shared 20 rounds with Chantelle Cameron, fought Delfine Persoon twice and spent the majority of her professional career competing in world championship fights.

Pili simply has not operated in that environment.

That does not mean she is a poor fighter. Far from it. She is undefeated, has held the IBO super-lightweight title and earned her opportunity by working her way through the European scene. Her most recent championship victory came against Jelena Janicijevic over ten rounds in December 2025.

But Croke Park against Katie Taylor is several levels above anything she has previously experienced.

Why Taylor Should Control the Fight

Taylor’s biggest advantage is not punching power. It is not size either.

It is her ability to process a fight.

Over the course of her career, Taylor has experienced almost every situation an elite boxer can encounter. She has fought aggressive pressure fighters, technical counter-punchers and physically stronger opponents. She has competed in extremely close fights, fought through difficult rounds and made adjustments when her original approach was not working.

Her trilogy with Amanda Serrano is probably the best recent example.

Their first two fights were frequently chaotic. Serrano’s aggression forced Taylor into exchanges where both women were throwing at an extraordinary pace.

The third fight in July 2025 looked different.

Taylor was more disciplined, controlled the distance more effectively and was far less willing to remain in unnecessary exchanges. She won the fight by majority decision and showed that even late in her career she was capable of adjusting her approach against an opponent she knew extremely well.

That version of Taylor is particularly difficult for Pili.

If Taylor chooses to box rather than turn the fight into a war, Pili has to find a way of consistently getting through one of the most experienced fighters in women’s boxing while simultaneously preventing Taylor from scoring with quick combinations and escaping.

That is a difficult assignment.

The Biggest Question: Katie Taylor Is 40

There is one obvious factor preventing this from being treated as completely routine.

Taylor is 40 years old.

No amount of experience completely eliminates the effects of age, and decline in boxing does not always happen gradually. Sometimes a fighter looks excellent in one performance and noticeably slower in the next.

Retirement fights bring another variable.

Taylor has spent months discussing her legacy, Croke Park and the end of her career. The entire event is effectively being presented as a celebration of everything she has achieved.

From a sporting perspective, however, she still has to fight.

Taylor has insisted during fight week that she remains focused on the contest itself and has even spoken about producing a career-best performance. Reuters reported that Saturday’s fight is expected to be Taylor’s final appearance and gives her the opportunity to finish her career as the undisputed super-lightweight champion.

The possibility of age finally showing is the primary reason we would not push Taylor’s estimated win probability even closer to 95%.

Pili’s youth matters.

But youth by itself does not solve the technical and experience gap.

What Flora Pili Needs to Do

Pili cannot afford to spend the first half of the fight simply following Taylor around the ring.

If Taylor is allowed to establish her rhythm, land combinations and exit before Pili can respond, rounds could become extremely difficult to score for the challenger.

Pili needs to make Taylor uncomfortable.

That means taking away space rather than merely moving forward. She needs to use her jab, attack the body when opportunities appear and make Taylor work during every minute of the fight.

The challenger also cannot allow herself to be overwhelmed by the occasion.

Nothing in Pili’s professional career can realistically prepare her for walking into Croke Park with around 80,000 spectators supporting the woman standing opposite her. The psychological side of the fight may be almost as important as the technical side during the opening rounds.

There is one advantage to being such a large underdog: expectations are almost nonexistent.

Pili can take risks.

Taylor carries the pressure of producing the ending everyone has already written for her. Pili only has to disrupt it.

The problem is that doing so requires beating a fighter who has repeatedly performed under much greater pressure than this.

Why We Prefer Taylor by Decision

Taylor to win outright is currently priced at around 1/16, equivalent to approximately 1.06 in decimal odds. Oddschecker has shown Pili as high as approximately 13/1, with Taylor dominating the market across sportsbooks.

At 1/16, Taylor’s moneyline simply offers very little upside.

The method-of-victory market is much more attractive.

Katie Taylor by Decision or Technical Decision is currently around 2/5 to 4/9, depending on the bookmaker. That corresponds to decimal prices of approximately 1.40 to 1.44.

That fits the matchup considerably better.

Taylor has only six stoppages from 25 professional victories and has not developed her reputation through knockout power. Her strength has always been activity, accuracy, combinations, footwork and the ability to accumulate winning rounds.

Pili, meanwhile, has never been stopped as a professional.

She has already completed ten-round fights and has demonstrated enough durability to suggest that simply surviving Taylor’s offense should not be the biggest problem.

Winning rounds is another matter.

We expect Pili to remain competitive enough physically to hear the final bell, but Taylor should consistently produce the cleaner and more noticeable work.

That makes a points victory the most logical outcome.

Main Betting Pick: Katie Taylor by Decision

Current odds: approximately 2/5 to 4/9

This is our preferred Taylor-specific market.

The outright price requires bettors to accept extremely short odds while still carrying the risk of a 40-year-old fighter competing in her retirement bout.

Taylor by decision increases the price substantially and matches both fighters’ career profiles much better.

Our expected scenario is Taylor winning the majority of the early rounds through speed and cleaner combinations, Pili becoming more aggressive as the fight progresses, and Taylor using her experience to manage the later rounds rather than chasing a stoppage.

Prediction: Katie Taylor by unanimous decision.

Best Alternative Bet: Fight to Go the Distance

There is another market we like even more if the objective is simply finding the most logical betting angle rather than predicting the winner.

Fight Goes the Distance – Yes

888sport was offering approximately 4/11, while other markets have also priced a full-distance fight as a strong favorite.

There are several reasons this makes sense.

Taylor is not a particularly aggressive knockout hunter. She can overwhelm opponents with combinations, but at this stage of her career there is little reason for her to take unnecessary risks searching for a finish.

Pili has never been stopped.

Taylor also knows exactly how important this fight is. If she establishes a comfortable lead, there would be little strategic reason to abandon a successful boxing approach and create opportunities for Pili.

The fight is scheduled for ten rounds rather than twelve, which further increases the probability of reaching the scorecards.

Our estimated probability of the fight reaching the final bell is roughly 84%.

At that number, the distance market becomes arguably the safest logical angle on the fight.

Betting Pick: Fight Goes the Distance – YES

Estimated probability: 84%

The biggest threat to this bet would be a dramatic difference in levels becoming apparent early. If Pili struggles badly with Taylor’s speed, the accumulated volume could potentially force a referee or corner stoppage.

We do not consider that the most likely scenario.

What About Taylor by KO/TKO?

Taylor by KO, TKO or disqualification is currently priced around 2/1 with several sportsbooks.

The number looks attractive compared with her extremely short moneyline price, but we would avoid it.

A bettor taking Taylor by stoppage is effectively betting that the jump in opposition will overwhelm Pili enough for Taylor to achieve something she rarely does: finish an opponent.

Taylor has six knockouts in 26 professional fights.

Her last several major contests have all been decided by the judges, including three fights against Serrano and two against Cameron.

The Croke Park atmosphere may encourage Taylor to push harder for a spectacular ending, but sentiment should not be confused with probability.

At 40, conserving energy and controlling rounds is likely to be more valuable than chasing a knockout.

Is There Any Value on Flora Pili?

This is where things get interesting.

Pili’s odds look enormous.

Depending on the sportsbook, she is currently available anywhere from roughly 9/1 to 14/1, while Pili by decision has been quoted around 20/1 to 25/1.

Big odds do not automatically mean good value.

A 10/1 underdog only represents value if you believe that fighter has more than roughly a nine-percent chance of winning.

We currently place Pili’s overall win probability at around 8%.

That means we would not recommend a Pili moneyline bet at the majority of current prices.

There is an upset path.

Taylor could look her age. Pili could force a higher physical pace than expected. The emotion surrounding Taylor’s farewell could potentially lead to a slow start. Pili could also win enough close rounds to make the scorecards uncomfortable.

But betting should be based on probability rather than finding reasons why something could happen.

There simply is not enough evidence from Pili’s previous opposition to suggest that she should be expected to defeat Taylor more often than the current double-digit prices imply.

Taylor vs. Pili Betting Summary

Fight Prediction: Katie Taylor wins

Predicted Method: Decision

Estimated Win Probability: Taylor 91% / Pili 8% / Draw 1%

Main Pick: Katie Taylor by Decision – around 2/5 to 4/9

Alternative Pick: Fight Goes the Distance – Yes – around 4/11

Avoid: Katie Taylor Moneyline at around 1/16

Higher-Risk Bet We Don’t Recommend: Taylor by KO/TKO at around 2/1

The market is probably correct in making Taylor an overwhelming favorite.

Where we disagree slightly is how bettors should approach that favoritism.

There is almost no reason to bet Taylor outright at 1/16 when her career statistics and the stylistic matchup offer a much clearer route through the method-of-victory market.

Pili should be durable enough to stay in the fight.

Taylor should be good enough to win it.

That combination points strongly toward the scorecards.

Final Prediction: Katie Taylor by Unanimous Decision

There are always risks attached to backing a 40-year-old boxer in her final fight.

But Taylor has spent her entire professional career competing several levels above the opposition Pili has faced.

Pili’s undefeated record deserves respect, and her youth gives the matchup at least one genuine unknown. Yet she now has to translate success at European and IBO level into a fight against one of the most experienced championship boxers of her generation.

That is an enormous jump.

Expect Pili to start cautiously before attempting to increase the pressure once she realizes that allowing Taylor to dictate the distance will cost her rounds.

Taylor should respond with what she has done throughout her career: fast combinations, intelligent movement and adjustments whenever her opponent begins finding success.

The final rounds could become competitive as Pili becomes increasingly aggressive, particularly if Taylor is comfortably ahead and begins managing her energy.

But over ten rounds, Taylor’s experience and superior body of work against elite opposition should prove decisive.

Our prediction for Taylor vs. Pili: Once Upon a Time is therefore a Katie Taylor victory on the judges’ scorecards.

The fairy-tale knockout ending might make the better movie.

The decision win makes the better prediction.
