Ben Whittaker defeated Conor Wallace by unanimous decision in Birmingham on October 3, winning the IBF light heavyweight final eliminator. The judges scored the fight 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113 for Whittaker.
In a ringside report for Fightnews, Boxing Bob Newman described Wallace finishing strongly after Whittaker had built the better early and middle-round work. Wallace pressed hard in the closing rounds and produced his best moments late.
The dramatic final round included several moments when Whittaker went to the canvas, but no knockdowns were officially scored. Whittaker therefore completed the scheduled distance and took the decision on all three cards.
The result strengthens Whittaker’s position in the IBF light heavyweight rankings, but no specific world-title fight has been officially scheduled. It also closes the story that began with our pre-fight preview.
